Arghhh – Quarterly Estimated Self-Employment Taxes

I just put my quarterly taxes, in the mail… you know, the ones we pay because we’re self-employed? Since I’m in California, that means a second check, fortunately smaller, to the state.
Okay, so I should be grateful I’ve got income to pay taxes on… and I am, but darn!
And no, there isn’t anything in particular I want to buy with that money instead… invest it maybe, but darn!
I wish I approved more of what both the Feds and my state government do with the money we send them, and yes, I vote and call my representatives regularly and all that.
(Deep breath)
It’s done for another quarter, and I am glad I have the money to pay them.

I feel for you, Anne. I just did the exact same thing today. And I know taxes aren’t optional and all…but it feels to me like I’m sending a huge chunk of money out into space. I mailed it out and I thought, “there goes a couple of trips I could’ve taken. There goes a dozen gorgeous outfits I can’t buy. There goes that pro website design I could’ve bought.” (Sigh) And if you’re currently not thrilled about how the Federal government is spending its tax dollars, well…it’s probably better not to think about it.
Jennifer… sometimes a bit of denial is a good thing.
anne, i’ll be freelancing full-time soon. where do you get the forms for that? i’ve always used tax software and filed once a year. this will be a first.
