As This Seems Fair, I’m Sure the NCAA Will Decide Against It

dukelax.jpgAs this year’s Duke Lacrosse team plays on in the Lacrosse Final Four, the question remains, what will become of last year’s Duke Lacrosse team? Well, they might get the chance to finally play, sort of.

Inside Lacrosse has learned that a “Request for a Season of Competition Waiver” has been filed and is under review by the NCAA. If the NCAA approves the request, it will grant an extra season of eligibility to all the players who were on the Duke team in 2006, meaning Danowski and the rest of the current seniors would be eligible for one more season.

The NCAA is unlikely to grant eligibility to the players, and even if they did, they players likely wouldn’t take it. The best players are going on the play professional lacrosse and the rest have cushy jobs lined up, thanks to the fact that their parents are rich, white and know people. (Interestingly enough, their relative rich/whiteness was why they were prosecuted in the first place.)

By the way, don’t root for Duke this weekend during the Lacrosse Final Four. It would be the worst “overcoming adversity” Disney movie ever, it’s not worth it. Root for Delaware, they’re unranked and their coach has a fantastic mustache.

He promises to shave it if they win, but it grows back overnight.
