Ask the Experts: What are your favorite management blogs?

December 1, 2007 by Phil Gerbyshak

We’re nearing the end of the year, and I’d like to recognize the top management blogs of 2007. While we have a few of our favorites in our blogroll, we’d like to add (and read) others.

Here’s what we’ve got so far:

Written Word

Spoken Word

So now, I’d like to

Ask the Experts

(Hey, that’s YOU, reading this blog, if you weren’t sure)

Please add your favorites in the comments, along with WHY it’s so good for you.

Thanks for contributing to Slacker Manager! David and Phil appreciate it very much!

PS If you leave more than 1 URL in your comment, it will be held in moderation, but please don’t let that stop you. I promise I’ll fish them out of the spam bucket and post them here for all to read as I appreciate every one of you who takes the time to share.

PPS Don’t be shy about listing your own blog if you have a management focus on your blog.

  1. Mike King says:

I’m glad to see manager-tools. By far the best on the list. As for a couple other written word:
http://www.genuinecuriosity.com is a favorite of mine. Not a high number of posts (which I like) but all great quality.

Also http://www.damngoodmanager.com which is brand new has some, so far at least, great content.

  2. Two additional favourites from me:
    Management Issues
    Mission Minded Management

and I am just cranking up my own Englishspeaking blog after having blogged in Swedish for years
    Management Unplugged

  3. Jim Bullock says:

David Maister’s blog. In a community of knowledge workers, there’s lots to learn from the management of service firms.

    “Trust Matters” by Charles Greene:
    http://trustedadvisor.com/blog/

    “Focused Performance” by Frank Patrick:

    Bob Sutton’s “Work Matters”

    There are others.

Hi Phil and David, Thanks for the kind words, although I’ve only been writing http://www.LeadershipTurn.com since August.

I’d also like to recommend my other blog, http://www.MAPpingCompanySuccess.com. It deals with company culture, communications, hiring, motivation and retention. I’m told that it’s useful and the ideas and approaches are easy to put into practice. See y’all there.

  5. Phil and David,

Let me offer two of my daily reads:

    Jim Stroup at http://www.managingleadership.com

    Wally Bock at http://www.threestarleadership.com

These guys consistently turn out thought pieces that combine their years of real managerial/consulting experiences with good research and common sense.

  6. and…

thanks for the mention and consideration over here at All Things Workplace!

  7. Mike – I agree with you about Genuine Curiosity. Dwayne has a great style about him. And Damn Good Manager is definitely Damn Good!

Paul – I enjoy Management Issues as well. I’m unfamiliar with Mission Minded Management, and with your blog. I’ll give them a read.

Jim – I’m a fan of Maister as well. I’m working through his new book right now. I’m also a fan of Bob Sutton. I’ll definitely include both of them.

I wasn’t familiar with Trust Matters or Focused Performance. Thanks for sharing those.

David – Great sharing. I’ve worked with Kent personally, and he is a man of his word. What he writes, he lives.

I didn’t miss Miki, though a little more link love won’t hurt her :)

And George Ambler’s blog The Practice of Leadership…How could I miss that?

Miki – I’ll definitely check out your other blog. Thanks for sharing it! Keep up the great work at Leadership Turn!

Steve – You are a star among stars! Thanks for stopping by and recommending 2 more great ones! I’ll update our list soon!

  8. Jim Bullock says:

    Thanks for assembling the list.

I forgot one. If you happen to work in technology “Rands In Repose” is probably a must read. Sorry I forgot that one.

One of these days, I’ll have to finally get serious about a web site & blog myself. Meanwhile, pleased to meet you.

  9. Awesome! Thanks Jim.

Glad to meet you too. If you ever have an article to contribute, send us an e-mail through the contact form. We’d love to share you with our readers if you’re as good a writer/thinker as you are a blog finder :)

  10. Wow, thanks, Phil! I missed this somehow – or I would have thanked you at the Pow-wow!

And thanks as well to you and your faithful readers for all these other cool management blogs to explore..

    Abrazos,
    Erika
