At This Rate, Toledo Will Be Sacked and Pillaged by November

Michigan is now ranked number two in the BCS standings. OSU, as I’m sure you remember, is ranked number one. Also, as you are certainly aware, Michigan plays OSU on November 18th. Plus, the two states don’t get along. The Ohio-Michigan rivalry is a long standing one. It originally stems from the Toledo War, in which the state militias met at the disputed Toledo Strip. (Seriously) There were no casualties in the battle — a sheriff was stabbed away from the battle, and I think some chickens were stolen. Eventually, Michigan ceded the strip for rights the upper peninsula and statehood. Toledo is best known today for being home to the Tigers AAA affiliate. The Toledo Strip hasn’t been an issue for a while. (It’s filled with people from Ohio, why would people from Michigan want it?) Nowadays, the contentious feelings stem from the fact that Ohioans are always angry because they have to live in Ohio and Michiganders are perturbed because they have to drive through Ohio to get almost anywhere. With both teams undefeated and looking at easy schedules till the November showdown, expect the interstate trash talking to escalate a bit. (Helpful hint: the Ohio originated insults will be the ones that are grammatically incomprehensible.)
