Attention.XML
There aren’t any examples but i do hear the term “attention.xml” a lot these days. What is attention.xml? According to the Technorati Developers Wiki it is an open standard, built on open source, that helps you keep track of what you’ve read, what you’re spending time on, and what you should be paying attention to. In the age of information overload, that sounds good!
In attention.xml all feeds and posts that you read are being tracked. For each post or feed it tracks how much time you spend on it, the last time you checked it and an optional rating of the information. Based on this it should be possible to advice you what to read and where you should spend your time on! Imagine what that could mean for MSN Messenger, mIRC, Winamp, BitTorrent, etc…
Clive Thompson at the New York Times has a long article, “Meet the Life Hackers“, that’s about attention and information overload (via Greg Linden) and Steve Gillmor wrote about the idea back in March. I’m sure we’re gonna hear more about this… soon. The question is from whom?
