Audio Technica Vinyl Archiver . Okay, so “Archiver” is not a real world but bare with me. Over the years and though the ages of technological advancement some people have built up quite the collection of vinyl. I’ve know people that have walls full of it. Although it takes up a lot of space, there is just something about vinyl that keeps it almost timeless.

The biggest problem with vinyl is portability. Most people that have spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on vinyl didn’t want to buy their albums on cassette when cassettes became the new media. Same thing for people that had a lot of cassettes. They didn’t want to replace their collection with more money spent on cds.

These days there are alternatives. You can play vinyl in your car…or can you? If you know what you’re doing and are computer savvy you can buy this cool Audio Technica USB turntable and archive your vinyl collection to digital media and either put it on your iPod of burn it to CD. By using the included software, Cakewalk Pyro and/or  Audacity (Can be used for PC or Mac) you can rip the vinyl to various music file formats such as WAV, MP3 and WMA. The software also cleans up the audio and removes the popping, hissing and humming, but that’s what a lot of vinyl collectors like, that raw vinyl sound.

You don’t have to use the turntable just for archiving your vinyl though, you can also connect it to any sterio with a line in option and play your vinyl through the turntable. The great thing about these turntables is that they aren;t even that expensive. The Audio Technica goes for $80.79 on Amazon.com through “Electronics Expo “. There are several other brands out there you can also shop for. Enjoy.
