Australia to See iPhone End of June?

According to this article found in MacTalk, yes Australia will be seeing an iPhone at the end of June. Quoting from the article here are the important information gathered.

* Last week of June release
* More than 1 carrier
* No contract lock in
* Current resellers will be able to sell iPhones

The last week of June release is just a few weeks after the WWDC. Apple will also be releasing the 2.0 version of the iPhone software come WWDC. A perfect time to release an updated iPhone. Another thing that supports the notion of a new iPhone release is the lack of iPhones to be found at some Apple stores in the U.S.

If the report of MacTalk is true and Apple is releasing the iPhone on multiple carriers then this is a good thing. I’m not really a big fan of the whole “locked-in” model that telcos offer. I mean everyone should be able to use their phone of choice on their carrier of choice. If the carrier provides bad service then move to another carrier.

No contract lock in? Read above.

It’s good if all current resellers will be able to sell iPhones. It simply means that people won’t have to go to far to get an iPhone.

With Australia looking to get an iPhone come mid-year, can Asia be far behind? I hope not.

  1. Purely rumor at this point, but there are whispers that the iPhone “2.0″ may roll out simultaneously with the upcoming G4 network capability. Take that with a grain of salt, though. It’s all rumor.
