Over the next couple days before the HUGE launch of Apple’s new 3G iPhone, I’ll be making a few posts about what I love so much about the iPhone and why & why not to get the new one.

My question is – is there a market for the iPhone with young entrepreneurs or do most young entrepreneurs get a Blackberry like a lot of business folks do? Confession: I’m crazy, I probably by a new phone every year just cause I love being up to date on the latest technologies & I’m totally a sucker for “features.”

I got into the Blackberry a few years ago when I was in Mortgage industry & I liked the features & what it did but the aesthetics totally sucked until recently. Blackberry has done a GREAT great job in the last year coming out with the Pearl, then coming out with the Curve.

The Curve was such a great phone for me as it had push email, Blackberry messenger & some other great features. I ended up getting an iPhone because I thought it would make sense to me having a Mac Book Pro & have the ability to sync my Calendar, Address Book, Email, etc all together from my laptop & my phone. The result = I’ll never look back.

For the masses, the iPhone is a great all around phone. You have a full web browser, you can get your email, plus many other really cool features. It also looks cool which is always nice. For Mac users, the iPhone just makes sense with the ability to sync everything together.

I’m going to be sharing some more thoughts as well as some cool things that I believe are really going to help young entrepreneurs & business folk out tremendously. Stay tuned folks & I’ll be talking about “MobileMe” next. It’s gonna rock!

Stay Tuned.

A great question to ask yourself is whether or not you wanna be a solopreneur or work with a partner instead on a business venture. Either way, it doesn’t matter but it’s definitely something to think of.

I have seen both sides of the coin on several occasions. I think it depends on YOU & your business model sometimes. For me, I know there’s times where I can work on a project by myself, but there’s other times where it’s best to have a partner. The big issues that people have with finding a partner is splitting profits? Think about it though, if you have the 2 right people involved, you might double or triple your profits. There’s just power in numbers in my opinion.

Again it all depends on your & the project. If you have a small project that won’t take too much time to get it off the ground, it might be a good idea to work it by yourself. I think you should push yourself til you feel that you’ll need an extra hand. Then you just gotta find the right partner.

Finding the right partner is critical. I’ve had a few business deals go bad cause I chose the wrong partner and it sucks. So make sure when you’re looking for a partner, that you do your due diligence. Find someone that is strong where you’re weak & vice versa. If you’re not good at the details and organization, find someone that is. You wanna find someone that compliments your talents.

Both ways can be very beneficial depending on the project. Just make sure that whatever you choose, you’ve got all your bases covered, you’ve taken the advice from your mentors, & you should be just fine! :)

Free Agency has opened up for the NBA and there’s a lot of high profile athlete’s that are available. Now I’m a HUGE fan of basketball but sometimes I just don’t get these guys.

I just think its interesting when you have talented players that with the right pieces to their team, can be contenders to win a championship, are so quick to jump at the opportunity to just make a few extra bucks. Well it’s not a few extra bucks, it’s like either going with a 5 year deal for $101 Million or a 6 year deal for $127 Million. I mean at that point, is there really a big difference in money?

I mean if you’re a Ray Allen or a Kevin Garnett, it makes sense as they were going to a team that was instantaneously going to contend with a title, which they ended up doing so. What I DON’T get is when a player goes to a team that totally sucks just for the money. That’s annoying & it screwed up sports IMO.

Ya you gotta look out for your family, but sheesh, how big is your family when you pull a 100 Million Dollar plus payday. That’s nuts.

I see some entrepreneurs do the same thing. Where they get so caught up in the money side of things that they burn bridges, jump from opportunity to opportunity where all they have to do is just let a little grass grow under their feet and just build a business.

Money is obviously important, but you’ve definitely gotta have some integrity in class in business. The grass isn’t always greener & relationships with your team, business partners are far more important than leaving just for the money.

What are your thoughts on this?

Myspace SUCKS…IF your target audience and potential customers aren’t on there.

I guess I just became an artist or a small, independent novelty store vendor in one week because someone said that those are the only people benefiting from Myspace. Yay me! A few days ago I wrote a post that Myspace doesn’t suck but the whole purpose if you actually read the post was that as a young entrepreneur, there are several different places that you can network with people, and connect with your target market if you you have a business.

People that actually run a business or have ran one in the past obviously know that you have to find the demographic that fits your target market. For some people Myspace makes more sense, or other places like LinkedIn, Facebook, or Ryze might make most sense. You just have to do some testing on which works best. Testing is HUGE. If you’re not testing in your business it can cost you a lot of money as a young entrepreneur.

Some people like Myspace, some people don’t, doesn’t really matter but the point is, you gotta get out there and start identifying who you target audience is and where they spend their time.

The reason I wrote the “Does Myspace Suck?” post is because I just picked up a client that has a show on VH1 and the funny thing is I hadn’t even checked my Myspace profile in over 2 months.

So is there still some sort of market on Myspace for young entrepreneur? Absolutely. Is it my Social Network of choice, not really if I haven’t been on there in over 2 months. I have friends that run 6 figure business because of Myspace & other friends who run 6 figure businesses cause of Facebook.

What ROCKS about Facebook is you can use an app that will allow you to check your Myspace messages. They’re doing a lot of really cool things and have also integrated a Chat Function which is cool.

So in the end, if your target market is no where to be found on Myspace, then Myspace DOES SUCK! Same goes with Facebook or any other Social Network. Test the waters and see for yourself. It doesn’t hurt.

The “word on the street” is that Myspace sucks. You see a lot of people talking about it online and that everyone is moving to Facebook blah blah blah…

I was on Myspace back in 03 when it first started, I think my ID is like 6229 (Tom one of the creators ID is 6221), so I have some sentimental value towards the site.

Facebook is great as well and there’s a lot of people going from Myspace to Facebook but the site that really put Social Networking Sites on the map is still generating tons of traffic. Myspace even revamped their look recently and it looks way hot!

Here’s the bottomline for a young entrepreneur trying to figure out which site to use. Myspace & Facebook (in my experience) attract different crowds so my take on it why not get on both. I connect with a lot of “creative/artisitic” type folks on Myspace and on Facebook I connect with a lot of “professional/business.” So there’s a market for both.

Regardless which one you choose, Myspace doesn’t suck, they just ain’t the only Social Networking site anymore.

That’s a question that I’ve been having to ask myself a lot lately with a couple different things. So my question to you is how do YOU deal with tough decisions.

Do you do the whole “Benjamin Franklin,” Pros vs Cons on a piece of paper? Do you ask around? Who do you ask? Do you follow your passion or do you follow what’s safe? Do you flip a coin or just go with your gut?

These are things that we as young entrepreneurs need to start asking ourselves. Why you ask? Because if we’re in these situations and having not been prepared, might cause a state of panic.

I’ve dealt with situations like this a lot, but they’re still not easy and one thing I will promise you is this – not everyone will be happy with your decision. We have to realize as a young entrepreneurs that we can’t please everyone.

When Bill Cosby was asked what he thought the key to success was he simply stated, “I don’t know the key to success but I know the key to failure – trying to please everyone.”

Here’s my take & I’m interested in YOURS.

When faced with a big “life” decision or “career move” decision, ask your closest friends, ask your mentors, ask your family so you can get another perspective. But the kicker is, don’t let them decide for you – GO WITH YOUR GUT (your heart, your instinct, your intuition, your spirit, or whatever YOU call it) and don’t look back.

I’ve found in studying entrepreneurs for a long time that the most successful entrepreneurs have always went with their gut, their instinct. Problem is for most entrepreneurs, especially young one’s is they let their brain talk them out of situations. I agree you have to think logistically, but ultimately your heart/gut/instinct is right most of the times.

What are your thoughts?

I just got done reading Good to Great the 2nd time around and I must say, this is a MUST READ book for any young entrepreneur.

I just got done reading Good to Great the 2nd time around and I must say, this is a MUST READ book for any young entrepreneur.

Good to Great is basically filled with case studies that shows how top companies have went from Good to Great. The basic principle that young entrepreneurs can take from this book is that if you’re running a business or a part of a team environment, you gotta get the right people on the buss, the wrong people off bus, & put the right people in the right seats.

I don’t have employees but one thing I will tell you is that I always make sure to surround myself with the right people and the people that are negative and aren’t adding any value to my life, I kick them off my bus.

Pick up this book as it has tons of strategies for you to start implementing in your life.

If you’ve already read it, would like to hear what you liked best about it!

My advice is to obviously make sure you have systems in place so that your business continues to run and that you’re not neglecting clients, but do your best to get away from the noise and site back and be still.
