The touchdown celebrations that earn penalties. Loving/making fun of the announcers. The pressure you feel when your team is down a touchdown under 2 minutes to go. The happiness that overcomes you when they tie it up. The sadness when your team loses but hope comes when you realize there is always next week or year.

Cosmo’s 10 Reasons To Watch Football

The offense finally showed up for the Bengals. Carson Palmer was 27/39 for 286 yards and a touchdown and Chris Perry rushed for 74 yards. They had the lead at the half up 13-10 and drove down the field with under 2 minutes to go in the game to get the game into overtime with a field goal. Those are some things to be optimistic about. But will this same team show up in the upcoming games are will they revert back to what they attempted to be in the first two games of the season?

They have 6 more games until the bye week. Cleveland, @ Dallas, @ NY Jets, Pittsburgh, @ Houston, and Jacksonville. Even though they did not get a win today the Bengals need to take something positive out of the game before they wake up in a few weeks and realize that they have become 0-9.

Saturday Evening Reading

Jim Tressel spoke to the media after the walk through in the coliseum. Christopher “Beanie” Wells will not be participating in The Collision At The Coliseum.

“I’m not sure he’ll ever speak to me again (but) I think it’s the right thing to do,” Tressel said.
Tressel said the decision to not play Wells was his alone after talking the matter over with medical personnel. The coach said he is concerned that letting Wells play might expose him to further risk of injury.” (Dispatch)

That leaves Boom Herron, Maurice Wells, and Brandon Saine to carry the load. Beanie will be missed but we wish him the best and hopefully he’ll recover from this soon.

Beanie Wells Game Status Official

The Cleveland Browns lost to the Dallas Cowboys 28-10 this past Sunday. I didn’t believe they had a shot of winning the game anyway but I did wonder at least a couple things:

1. Why they kicked that field goal instead of trying to go for a touchdown on 4th down?
2. Why Tony Romo got so much time in the pocket and didn’t start bleeding til the 2nd half?

And as you can see, one of those questions was NOT when is Brady Quinn going to play. But in reading WaitingForNextYear.com, a Browns fan was/is wondering that question. Hmm. I guess that happens. I’m sure a lot of franchises have fans who after watching their team not be able to do anything on defense demand for a quarterback change. Seems very common.

Browns Fans Already Calling For Brady Quinn?

This seems fitting. Especially for a Cincinnati Bengal. Chad Johnson is definitely his own man. He loved the name Ocho Cinco so much that he decided to change his name to just that. To celebrate his jersey number. But Ocho Cinco stands for 8-5, not 85. 85 would be ochenta y cinco. Now ochenta y cinco must not roll of the tongue for Chad like ocho cinco does. We are sure he knew that there was a difference. But then again, he is a Bengal.

It’s Official, Chad Johnson Is Now Chad 8-5

It has finally happened. The decision of whether or not Ben Mauk will get a 6th year of eligibility. His final appeal has been denied. This was the fifth time he has been denied by the NCAA and its reinstated committee.

With Ben Mauk now gone, will the Cincinnati Bearcats be too upset? Yes they’ll miss his experience but Dustin Grutza was the starter before Mauk arrived in Cincinnati. And last Thursday, Grutza threw for 296 yards and 3 touchdowns. And yes that win was just against Eastern Kentucky but you have to start somewhere, right?

So farewell Ben Mauk. Maybe we’ll hear from you in the future. But until, it was nice to see you as a Demon Deacon/Bearcat.

Goodbye Ben Mauk

There was a scary moment during the Ohio State Buckeye game on Saturday. As you can see above that scary moment included Chris “Beanie” Wells being helped off the field. He would later come back to the sidelines without his pads and a boot on his right foot. The X-Rays that were done were negative. But what happened? Is it his foot? His ankle? Turf toe? The college football world, especially Buckeye Nation, will be waiting to hear how the Heisman trophy candidate is doing.

As for Pete Carroll and the USC Trojans:

One reporter asked Carroll if he knew Ohio State running back Chris “Beanie” Wells got hurt. “He did?” Carroll asked, raising his eyebrows. “You weren’t aware he got hurt?” the reporter asked. “Yeah, somebody told me,” he said with a wry smile. “They stuck it on my chair when I came in.” (ESPN.com)

Beanie Wells And His Foot

Phillip Fulmer is the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers. He also has a birthday coming up on Labor Day. Happy Birthday from all of us at Dejuiced!

This will be his 16th year as head coach where he has a record of 147-45 and an SEC record of 87-27. He coached the Volunteers to the first ever BCS National Championship after the 1998 season. He’s had some good years after that and some bad (remember 2005? No? Ranked 3rd in the preseason and finished 5-6. Your welcome for catching you up.) and last year the Volunteers went 10-4 with a win against Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl. This year the Coaches and AP polls have them #18 at the start of the season and they take another trip to California this year but this time go up against the UCLA Bruins.

But outside of the goodness above, he has been 14-12 against the SEC in recent years and has been 5-11 against Florida. Some fans are still not over the 2005 year (I understand. Buckeyes went 6-6 in 1999. But I got over that when Cooper was fired). If another year like that happened, what will Knoxville do?
