But you sure know who Tiger Woods is. I’m sure of that. Well Elin Nordegren is the wife of Tiger Woods. And she’s pregnant. You might be wondering what this has to do with the internet. But it’s the story that’s important. See in her own circles Elin Nordegren was a well known former model, daughter of an influential politician. She was famous. But then she met Tiger Woods. Then she became Hollywood Famous.

The internet is the same as real life. You might be well known in your own niche. But what are you doing to expand your niche. Are you going out and networking with people who might be well known in an unrelated niche that could help benefit you, and them?

Think about it. It can only help. Spend 30 minutes each day interacting with people you’d normally not interact with. In no time you will expanded your contacts and learned a few new things, and probably taught other folks a few things they didn’t know.

Happy Birthday Elin. Good luck on the baby. Thanks for this great lesson.

Suprisingly or maybe not. I used to really enjoy spending time in the woodshop. I spent a lot of time in high school working at the planer shed and around polyurethane finishing. This could explain the lack of brain cells that I currently have. Either way a few years ago I dreamed of owning a operating a small wood shop that manufactured a product. Over time I did some research on a product that would be easy enough to go into and would be highly rewarding. Back then I settled on a Casket Shop.

Seems strange to be in that line of work. But their is something fulfilling about helping remember their loved ones in this special way. So I have this business idea. I’ve learned a lot from the web the last few years. Now it’s time to take a few solid online principles and leverage that into a smart business.

Basically in the beginning I wanted a low-stress model of business that wouldn’t require a lot of overhead and setup. So I decided to setup shop as a PreOrder Custom Casket Shop. Essentially allowing people to pre-order caskets for future use for themselves or a loved one.

Caskets would be custom ordered online, manufactured, stored in a small warehouse in Montana and shipped upon need. The whole setup would be automated. I would receive orders, manage customers, and handle delivery. The wood shop in Montana would handle the manufacturing.

Let’s head over to the branding shed. I wanted a good name that would be easy to remember, sellable, and genuine. The first thing that came to mind was CasketShoppe, I didn’t really like it though. And I settled on CasketVine.com.

A lot goes through my head when it comes to developing a business name, or a domain name. The key thing is always for me. Is it something someone offline would understand what it does? By the name. Or does the name signify something psychologically.

Either way I think this works. So I headed off to Go Daddy to purchase it.

Key Tip: Always Google Your Prospective Domain to make sure no one else is using something similar. It’s really rather good business practice and saves yourself from future legal issues.

Confusing title I know. I’m still trying to make sense of it. I’ve been wanting to try out an experiment. I want to start a company with a real world product only by leveraging the internet. I have a few ideas that take me back a few years to my days working in a woodshop. I want to have the WorkBoxers’ readers follow me through this process and I will detail the results of this experiment and show how easy it is to get started with a business just by leveraging the power of the internet.

First off I’m headed off to do some power napping and also to grab a high powered domain name that will be competitive. A solid domain is really important and should really be apart of your branding strategy. I currently don’t have a ‘brand’ since its a brand new business. So I’m the boss and have a clean slate to start fresh.

I don’t want to have a huge budget to get off the ground. I want it to be nearly 100% organic growth from online marketing. Obviously with this business ‘woodworking’ its going to take some investment to get off the ground. In my case I’m going to try the partnership model. Where I own a % of the business in exchange for providing work to an already successful woodworker.

In a few hours I should have a solid domain selected and I can head down the road to setting up a new website.

When you get customers, you need to get their contact details to. These contact details, when made available, let you directly market to people who have visited your site and shown interest in your product. However, with the new CAN SPAM act in full effect, you’re often better off letting professional services handle email marketing for
you. Enter Constant Contact.

With Constant Contact you can promote your products and services easily and quickly to people who sign up for your mailing list. Constant Contact offers great looking templates and a free 60 day trial of their service. In addition to the revenue you’ll make through direct marketing, you can become a Constant Contact affiliate.

What does Constant Contact offer to it’s affiliates?

They offer great text and banner links for you to use on your website, forum, or in your emails. In addition, the commissions they offer are very nice. A referral who signs up for the 60 day free trial of Constant Contact nets you $2. A purchase can net you $25-50+. All this for a service that most webmasters need and want anyways. So get on it, and visit constant contact today.

So here’s my story. About 3 years ago I was running a newsletter for the house church movement. I had around 500 subscribers. I sent all of them an affiliate link and badda bing. I’m still reaping dollars from this sign up about 3 years later. The proof is in the pudding. Affiliate Marketing is great for developing residual income.

The Year of the Linkbait

Linkbait is a buzzword I tend not to like. However that didnt stop me from going out and buying lots of domain names related to linkbait in order to some day write a book about linkbait. See in my mind there are two motivations to link to someone. The first being an emotional motivation, someone provides a resource that inspires you. Secondarily there is also the ego motivation. This is usually driven from some controversy. I was once a king of the ego based motivational linkbait. Crushing others egos is an easy way to get links but it can be a bit weighty on the soul. The better kind of linkbait is by creating great resources and helping folks.

In order to write good content that would qualify as ‘linkbait’ you first have to set aside the goal of writing linkbait and write something you are either passionate about or extremely knowledgeable about. The greatest articles on the planet all start with powerful headlines. Usually content that lands on the front page of digg comes from professional marketers, and search engine optimizers, and social optimizers who are getting paid thousands of dollars to market their clients’ sites.

But is this really why we are here? To have to go surf through all the crap on digg that usually comes canned from a professional marketer. I could ‘out’ atleast 10 SEO and Web Developers getting paid thousands of dollars to feed Digg full of crap they don’t even believe in. Of course I guess they have to make money. And well this shit just works. So I don’t blame these guys.

2006 was the year of the linkbait. We can only expect more of the same in 2007. I continue to tell bloggers who do this for a living to not try and compete on the Digg Marketplace but to just write passionately and honestly because if you do that you are sure to succeed eventually.

Anyone who wants to can always ping me in the comments and I’m more than willing to help coach you on increasing your traffic, developing powerful headlines, and monetizing your sites. Thanks for a great 2006.

I make money online. Some folks ask me how I do it. A lot of it comes from selling websites. I like to build sites and flip them. I also like to help people build their own websites and help flip them.

In 2006 a large portion of my income was generated through the sale of websites. So lets talk about how to make money online and what I’ve learned about buying, selling, and marketing websites online. The key thing to understand about buying sites is buy a site and be patient. You will probably only recoup your investment quickly if you are patient or highly skilled in bringing ad dollars to the table.

My #1 Most Effective Way to Make Money Online Is By Flipping Sites

I’m not a web designer

I’m not a professional coder

I’m a mad content generator

Here’s the Readers Digest Condense Method On How I make money online:

Buy solid domains for my content.

Avoid saturated marketplaces.

Develop around 75-100 Articles.

Build Links.

Monetize.

Build Income.

Sell for 12x Income.

Over Time That’s What Workboxers will be about. How I build content sites online and how to make money doing it and have a lot of fun. Building sites doesnt have to be a pain, or a challenge. It can be as easy as engaging in conversation with friends.

If you haven’t already grab the RSS Feed because there is lots more to learn and lots more to explore.
