Moving Right Along

In my post here on August 7th, I announced that b5media were looking for a new host for this blog, as I was planning to move along. Subsequently, an ad was placed on the Problogger job board. There has been an excellent response and although it’s not my decision as to who the next person would be, I’m delighted to know the blog will be in good hands. And I have every expectation that it will flourish. In that post back on August 7th I outlined what the blog had been intended to achieve when it was launched back in October last year, so I won’t go over that ground again. I will repeat however my thanks to you and other readers and commenters for coming along with me on the journey, endeavouring to shine some light on the general... [Read more]

Globlogging’s Explosive Growth

Today’s guest blogger, Hal Licino, points to some interesting statistics on the languages of blogging and lays claim to a neologism. At the height of the Roman Empire, the single lingua franca of Latin was used as the official language of commerce and literature from Scotland to the Nile. Latin became an overlay onto the myriad languages of Europe, Asia Minor and North Africa, and citizens would either have to learn Latin, or effectively abandon any hopes of ameliorating their economic position. Two millennia later, an obscure West Germanic offshoot spoken by barely 6 million Britons in Shakespeare’s time has become the lingua franca of our age. The majority of the 6.7 billion people on Earth today face a similar dilemma to the Illyrians... [Read more]

Our guest blogger today, brand catalyst Nina Burokas, looks at the blogging question every business owner needs to be able to answer. What’s your blogging ROI? And does it really matter? Biz Blogging…WORKS. It is of…MONUMENTAL IMPORTANCE. (Or can be.) - Tom Peters, Foreword to Naked Conversations Last year, ProBlogger picked up a conversation thread off Debbie Weil’s BlogWriteforCEOs and proclaimed “Blogger achieves 5000% ROI from Blogging”(!!), sparking a conversation – and controversy – that continues today. Calculation details aside (the data cited actually translate into a 500,000% return) ProBlogger’s conclusion that a compelling ROI is the best argument for business blogging still applies. And is still... [Read more]

Chicago Blog Business Summit Cancelled

A few days ago I wrote here, enthusiastically, about the scheduled Blog Business Summit event scheduled for Chicago in September. And I was so enthusiastic, I wrote about it also on my Thinking Home Business blog. I concluded the post on this site with a mention of the fact that I had not so far been to a Blog Business Summit (small matters of a large body of water and not insignificant airfares), and expressed the hope that I would be able in due course to remedy that. “One day” I wrote, “I will get to a Blog Business Summit!”. Not so likely now, after the Blog Business Summit people posted on August 27th that the Chicago event had been cancelled. That post raised some interesting questions about blogging now in the... [Read more]

8 Answers to the Question: Why do you bother?

Guest blogger Andrew Garrett provides eight good reasons for blogging as part of your business. From the outside, spending valuable business time writing a blog looks like you’re wasting time. From the inside, it’s hard work, but can still feel a little disconnected from your day to day operations. The value we get from weblogging is hard to quantify in ways that make sense to accountants and financial planners. That doesn’t mean that the value isn’t there, just that it’s a little harder to identify. If you’re doing it right, you’re helping your business in a number of ways: Growth by Networking: We all know the value of networking for our business – with blogging, you can network more broadly... [Read more]
