In Toronto we have an annual Beer Fest, which is a weekend of binge drinking. It’s odd, but I have never been. I always seem to be out of town that weekend. This past year, I didn’t go because I was saving my liver for a trip to Boston the week later. I think celebrating beer for an entire weekend is a great idea. Until I found out that other cites do an entire week of it. Syracuse NY has the Syracuse Beer Week. A whole week of beer drinking! The even have a gala!! Imagine…putting on a cocktail dress, some strappy sandals and drinking pints all night. It’s so classy! Put me down for Syracuse Beer Week next year. Anyone want to do a road trip? [Read more]
Super Beer Giant Created

Sky News reported that Belgian beer monster InBev is going to take over American brew master Anheuser-Busch. Don’t know why, no one drinks mass-produced beer if they can help it. But it’s good to know that beer companies aren’t failing with the rest of the failing markets. So we’ll be poor but drunk. Maybe if no one can afford beer, they’ll drop the price? [Read more]
Beer Truck Driver Submits to Temptation

The Houston Chronicle reported a story about a beer truck driver who crashed his truck while drunk on the job. I DO NOT in any way condone drinking and driving, I am a huge fan of public transit and greasy cabs, but can you really blame the guy? He’s stuck in a semi-truck all day with sweet, sweet beer so close within reach. The smarter thing to do would have been to wait until he reached his destination, then sneak a few into his cab to bring home. Getting fired for stealing is no big deal, but a trucker who crashes a truck while drunk, that’s gotta hurt your employment potential. According to the article, the beer was contained in the truck. That’s gotta disappoint onlookers. I’d be part of the clean-up crew that gets... [Read more]
Albertans Keeping Us Prairie Folk Proud!

The Calgary Herald reported today that my home-province’s next door neighbors love their beer. The article quote some booze professional as saying that Albertans “…don’t need fancy, frilly things….”…which is why they also don’t like Celine Dion. Apparently half of all alcohol sales are beer, most is bought at the liquor store and drank at home. Bush parties! I grew up an hour from the Alberta border, and the legal age in Alberta is only 18, so I visited frequently for about a year. My take is that Western Canadian beer is just way better than beer elsewhere. [Read more]
Bears Fans Get Beer Early On Sundays

According to the the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Bears fans have persuaded the city to loosen the liquor laws to allow beer sales in grocery stores to start at 9am instead of 11am on Sundays. I don’t see why this is such a huge deal. A true beer fan would know which shady grocery stores sell them early anyway. Though I don’t think it was really Bears fans that did the persuading. I think it was the wives and girlfriends of Bears fans. Two reasons I think they are the ones behind it: 1) If they have to stay home while their husbands watch sports all day, they want to be hammered. 2) If they can get their husbands sauced enough, they can take the credit card and hit the mall or maybe a salon. Who needs beer so badly at 9am on a Sunday?... [Read more]
