Ratchet & Clank European Release Date Confirmed (PS3)

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time finally has a European release date, so for those of you bouncing impatiently in your gaming chairs, awaiting the official news, here it is: November 4 in the mainland and November 6 in the UK. And for those of you that are in the US and wondering when you get it, well, it’s October 27, which is soon. At least those in Europe don’t have to wait that much longer for their shot at the game.

By the way, if you’re a bit Ratchet & Clank fan and haven’t already checked out the latest PlayStation Store update, you should. There’s a playable demo (the very first!) up now and anxiously awaiting your download.

So to recap:

October 27: US release

November 4: Europe mainland release

November 6: UK release

Currently: Demo up at PSN Store

If you live in Europe, then it may be time to pick up a red pen and draw a big circle around the following date: November 20. That’s when the beloved Nintendo console stops pretending to be all sweet and innocent and reveals its blackened soul. In other words: That’s when you can go out and purchase a shiny new Wii in black. Oh, the temptation.

For those of you in the US you can purchase the Wii remote controller and the nunchuk in black on November 16. The Wii remote controller will come alongside Wii MotionPlus add-on and will set you back $50. The nunchuk will cost $20.

Europeans get everything come November 20: the sleek, black Wii console, new black Classic Controller Pro, black Wii Remotes, Wii MotionPlus accessories, and Nunchuk controllers. If you’re in the UK or Ireland, you get it much earlier: November 6. The rest of the mainland must wait a little longer.

Rock Band DLC: Queen Pack

At long last, the Queen Track Pack has hit the download virtual shelves and is now available for downloading. This is exciting news if you’re a Queen fan. The only song (blatantly) missing from this otherwise awesome selection of tunes is – of course – “Bohemian Rhapsody.” They make up for the omission by offering up all the other really awesome Queen songs, so it’s almost okay. So what are you getting in this delicious track pack?

The following tracks are now available for Xbox 360 (160 MS points each)/Wii (200 Wii points each)/PS3 ($1.99 each):

“Crazy Little Thing Called Love”

Rock Band DLC: Queen Pack

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars Now $4.99 on PSN

A big ‘Happy Birthday’ is in order for PlayStation’s Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars (phew, trying saying that ten times fast), and developer Psyonix is celebrating by giving out gifts instead of taking them. For a limited time, SARPBC will be available on the PlayStation Network for the low, low price of $4.99.

The game will be available at that reduced, happy-birthday price beginning October 15 and continuing until October 29. That’s two whole weeks of celebration. Wonder what they’ll do for the second anniversary?

If you haven’t already hopped on to PSN to download the game, you should. It’s a whole lot of Battle-Car fun. And they’re acrobatic. And Rocket-powered. You can’t go wrong with that.

Guitar Hero: Van Halen Delayed Free Game

Do you own a PS3? If so, did you pre-order Guitar Hero 5 for it? And were you promised a free copy of Guitar Hero: Van Halen as a Thanks! for pre-ordering said game? And have you been wondering where in the world your free game is? If you’ve answered yes to these questions, then worry not about having been forgotten. As it turns out, there’s been a little itty bitty problem causing a delay in the distribution of the Guitar Hero freebie. The problem boils down to a printing error.

The email people have been getting explaining the issue reads thusly:

Unfortunately, we made a printing error on the package of Guitar Hero Van Halen. Fortunately, we caught and remedied the error prior to sending your disc. Our effort to ensure a completely positive customer experience has resulted in a slight delay in shipping your copy of the game.

So there you go, if you hadn’t seen the email and had been concerned or perhaps frustrated and angered over your missing disc, now you know that Activision still loves you. But it loves you less than if you owned a different system, as the PS3 was the only one affected by the delay.

Guitar Hero: Van Halen Delayed Free Game

Sky TV Hitting Xbox 360 October 27 in UK and Ireland

If you’ve been waiting on an official date for Sky TV hitting your beloved Microsoft console, here you go: October 27. Start the countdown. For those of you that hadn’t heard, the Xbox 360 continues to mark its territory in the entertainment spectrum, soon launching on-demand movies, television shows. Pricing for the service remains hush hush, but will be made available once the player launches at the end of the month. Two weeks to go!

According to the Xbox 360 magazine, the lineup for available entertainment is similar to what you might get with a satellite dish. So if you’ve already got yourself one of those, this news might not be all that exciting. If you don’t, then Sky TV for the Xbox might be a sweet deal. You’ll be able to access on-demand documentaries, movies, TV shows, music, kids’ programming, and sports.

Not too shabby!

Rumor Mill: More Powerful Nintendo DS in the Works

Despite the fact that the Nintendo DSi just came out earlier this year, there’s already rumors circulating that a better, more powerful Nintendo portable console is in the works. We’re talking next generation DS. We’re talking numbers instead of letters. Forget Nintendo DSj … we’re jumping straight to Nintendo DS2. A complete overhaul of the current system sporting a brand spankin’ new Zune HD processor.

Assuming the rumors are true, of course.

Further rumors state that Nvidia will be providing the DS2 with some sexy Tegra chips. On top of that, the DS2 is going to be backwards compatible.

And the kicker? This rumored DS2 might be available as early as next year. Sorry to those of you that saved up for a DSi.

Alas, it’s all still a rumor, so take all details (including the name) with a grain of salt. It’s likely to be a while before Nintendo makes this news official, if it’s true.

If you’ve been holding out for a good deal on The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition or simply hadn’t gotten around to purchasing it yet, there’s some good news from Steam and Direct2Drive: You can now get the game at a sexy 50% off. The offer brings the price down to a budget-friendly $4.99 at Steam and $4.95 at D2D. For that price, everyone should run on over and pick it up. It’s our favorite pirate, after all. Arrr!

If the offer appeals to you, don’t hesitate, as the sale will only last until Monday, September 21. Then the spell will wear off and the carriage will turn back into a pumpkin and all you’ll be left with is an unpaired shoe. Or, you know, you’ll have to shell out the full $10. One of the two things will happen.

Potential Wii Price Drop (Maybe?)

So, there’s no confirmation from Nintendo that the Wii is going down in price. In fact, everything we’d heard until now is that the Wii is not going to go down in price no matter what the other Big Boys are doing with their next gen consoles. But in business, like in life, there are no never-nevers and no absolutes. So, while Nintendo may have believed that their Wii was the perfect price, they may have changed their minds.

Bottomline: Both Walmart and Toys R Us are reporting a $50 price drop for the Wii console, bringing it down to a sexy $199.99. Doesn’t that look kinder on the wallet? Both Sony’s weight-watching PS3 Slim and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Elite are both down to $299. So it would make sense for Nintendo to suck it up and slash some prices just to even out the playing field.

Whether or not the rumor is true will be confirmed soon enough. So keep your eye out, if you’ve been waiting for a cheaper Wii.
