Venus Williams, Sania Mirza, and Nadia Petrova will be participating in the Hopman Cup, which runs from December 30th until Januarty 5th. Maria Sharapova: World’s Best Smile

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour website wants to know what you think! Take your pick over the obvious choices: Justine Maria Amelie Svetlana Nadia Or vote for the underdog: Other   I’d be interested to see what ‘others’ people come up with. Martina Hingis, maybe? Does she have what it takes to end number one or has her ship sailed? Maybe even Elena Dementieva? Well, I’m biased, but I’d love to see Amelie Mauresmo finish first. She played so well last year and it’s a shame she didn’t manage to finish with a bang. Sharapova and Henin-Hardenne will probably stay in the top five, I’m guessing. Amelie Mauresmo Named Player of the Year by Tennis Writer’s Association

The International Tennis Writers Association selected Roger Federer and Amelie Mauresmo as their Players of the Year. Not only that, but also gave them the ITWA’s Ambassador for Tennis award. The Ambassador for Tennis award recognizes players that go above and beyond the call of duty to advance tennis worldwide. But why Amelie Mauresmo and not Justine Henin-Hardenne? A true humanitarian, Mauresmo is a contributor to the Curie Institute of France (for cancer research) as well as the Phil Collins Little Dreams Foundation.
