NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest. When football finally left the Los Angeles area and headed to St. Louis in the form of the Rams it was a sad day for the National Football League. The team said, “I’ll be back!” and now there is a good chance that the Rams or some other NFL franchise will return to the L.A. area. Mr. ‘I’ll be back” himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, better known as the Gov. in California, just signed off on an environmental exemption bill to get rid of some lawsuits over the stadium. Never let the environment stand in the way of good old football. Schwarzenegger called the lawsuit frivolous before a crowd of union members wearing hardhats. Across the street, a dozen protesters... [Read more]

Jay Cutler a Bear through 2013

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest. For years now we have watched from Michigan as the Chicago Bears put together teams that were superb on defense, but lacking on offense. Some years those teams would go to Super Bowls. Deep in my memory is a game the 85 Bears had in the Super Bowl with a quarterback called Jim McMahon. He was more of a personality and leader than he was a quarterback. Sadly, McMahon turned out to be the best of the lot for generations to come until Jay Cutler arrived in town. Does anyone remember Rex Grossman playing for the Chicago Bears in the Super Bowl? Of course you do and if you are a Bears fan and a lot of us from Michigan are (we have to root for someone when the Lions are losing all the time),... [Read more]

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest. Denver has been doing it with defense so far this year. Just shutting down team after team like it was nothing. It was time to show the world that they are made of more than defense, that they can also cross the goal line with regularity. It was also time to play the Chargers, a team that has ruled the AFC West for years. This year’s Chargers were struggling on defense and not quite the super offensive team they have been in the past. In other words, they were ripe for the taking and Denver was ready. Denver Broncos 34 San Diego Chargers 23 Let us back up a year and look at the Broncos. Your intrepid author, Squibster, just happened to catch a few Denver games. (full disclosure:... [Read more]

Tom Brady – 5 TDs in 1 quarter!

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest. Sports Center had a graphic showing the top 10 biggest shutouts in National Football League history. Most of the big NFL shutouts occurred in the 1920’s and 1930’s. There was one in the 70’s. Other than that the 59 to nothing shellacking that the New England Patriots put on the Tennessee hapless Titans was around 6th on the list. Get this; Tom Brady tossed 5 touchdowns in one quarter and 6 touchdowns in all. So much for Tom Brady having problems getting back into football after a year off with knee surgery. Brady had five TD passes in the second quarter, a record for one period. The six touchdown throws tied Brady’s own Patriots record. And the 59-point margin matched... [Read more]

Titans are better than Brett Favre Vikings

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest. Has the Squibster gone totally bonkers? Is it time to go beyond medication and lock him up? Evidently sedation is not enough. NFL Records Tennessee Titans 0 – 5 Minnesota Vikings 5 – 0 So how in the world can the Titans be the better team? Oh, the Squibster is not the crazed individual that thinks so. The meds are fine. No reason for the crazy room or the back sleeves jacket. It is Brian Burke that operates a predictive model on the NFL that is making the wild claim. He operates a web site called Advanced NFL Stats. It is odd to see this just this week. The Squibster was witness to a demo of some pretty powerful predictive web software that you could run against any database.... [Read more]
