Backlash: Triple H Earns WWE Championship; Matt Hardy Crowned US Champ

WWE Backlash took place last night at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland and two major titles changed hands. In the main event Triple H bested former-champ Randy Orton, John Cena, and JBL to claim the most prestigious title in sports entertainment.Cena opened up the eliminations in the bout, submitting JBL with the STFU before being quickly eliminated by Orton with a punt to the head. After a long one-on-one showdown Triple H pinned Orton with a pedigree to win the title. In the other title change at the event Matt Hardy defeated MVP with a clean twist of fate to pick up the United States Title. Undertaker Retains Championship on SmackDown

Shannon Moore def. WWE Tag Team Champion The Miz Natalya def. Cherry Edge def. CM Punk Vladimir Kozlov def. Marty Garner World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker def. Batista (No Disqualification Match) As indicated by the results above Undertaker retained the world heavyweight championship last night on SmackDown, pinning Batista after a sweet chin music assist from Shawn Michaels helped the deadman pick up the no DQ victory. The title was on the line at SmackDown for the first time in months and so was a spot to face Edge at Backlash though Undertaker ultimately prevailed. This afternoon the UFC announced three additional fights for UFC 85 in London, England at the O2 Arena. Announced today were Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves, Rashad Evans vs. James Irvin, and Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben. UFC 85 airs live on pay-per-view on June 7th at 3pm ET. Kane, “Familia” Brawl on ECW

RESULTS Tommy Dreamer & Kelly Kelly def. Mike Knox & Layla Jimmy Wang Yang def. John Morrison Kofi Kingston def. Shelton Benjamin Mark Henry def. Nunzio Poor match booking from top to bottom this week on ECW. I’m struggling to find anything in the entire hour worthy passing along. The “Familia” as they’re now being called with Edge, Vickie Guerrero, Chavo, and others, attacked Kane in what I guess you could call the main event, even though it wasn’t a match. Giving the group a name is semi-useful. It was getting pretty confusing as it kept growing and the simple title goes a long way in helping keep its members straight.
