More drool-worthy Tokyo Game Show videos coming your way. The video seems to be a co-op demo for Resident Evil 5, which thankfully, isn’t included in this year’s mad holiday rush. As you may have observed, the PlayStation 3 demo is in Japanese so it’s not clear whether the second character is AI or player-controlled.
From the looks of things, damage localization in Resident Evil 5 doesn’t seem to be limited to headshots as arms (and presumably, legs) are appropriately blown away when shot. Unfortunately, the player (or AI) demonstrating the game wasn’t good enough [...]
Post from: EveryJoe

1UP Show: Gears of War 2 Single Player Preview
There’s a new preview for Gears of War 2 over at 1UP, and it tackles the sequel’s single-player campaign. It’s interesting to see that the next installment presents some new sequences that break up the familiar cover-oriented gameplay the series is known for.
Don’t forget to mark November 7 on your calendars. That’s when Xbox 360 owners are getting Gears of War 2, and it’s arguably the console’s best game for 2008. We can’t wait to play it.

The Fallout 3 release date is just around the corner and GameTrailers was ruthless enough to show off several more videos to get us all worked up before the big day. If you’re looking for more reasons to aggravate the Fallout 3 itch, hit the jump to watch even more videos.
Fallout 3 is hitting North American store shelves on October 28. The Bethesda-developed RPG is arriving in Europe and Australia on October 30, and Japan in December 4.

There’s a new trailer for Far Cry 2 showing some more gameplay mechanics. This time, it’s about gaining the high ground to “win.” Unfortunately, all the advantage offered by high ground won’t be much help if you can’t shoot a lick.
Let me guess. Gamepad? No wonder.
For what it’s worth, this guy can shoot better than me when using a controller. I, however, don’t use controllers when playing first-person shooters.

The Conduit 'Features' trailer
It looks like the Wii is finally going to have another “hardcore” game. High Voltage Software, known for titles such as Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law (PS2, Wii, PSP) and Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude (PS2, PC, Xbox), is developing The Conduit for the Nintendo Wii. While the Wii may be considered underpowered compared to its rival consoles, The Conduit includes interesting “features” that make it look like a semi-respectable, run-of-the-mill sci-fi FPS.

Aside from a growing list of must-have games, the other thing I’d like to have this coming holiday season is a beefy new PC that can run bleeding-edge FPSes Crysis and Crysis Warhead at maximum resolution and detail without any hitches. Fat chance of that happening, though.
The next best thing is to watch how GameTrailers liked Crysis Warhead. If you can’t run either of those Crysis games, then it’s sheer torture to watch the pretty, pretty video. Still, there’s a sick sense of pleasure to be derived out of just witnessing the whole clip unfold, even if your PC is [...]
Post from: EveryJoe

Video review: Crysis Warhead is still the best way to punish your PC

Aside from a growing list of must-have games, the other thing I’d like to have this coming holiday season is a beefy new PC that can run bleeding-edge FPSes Crysis and Crysis Warhead at maximum resolution and detail without any hitches. Fat chance of that happening, though.

The next best thing is to watch how GameTrailers liked Crysis Warhead. If you can’t run either of those Crysis games, then it’s sheer torture to watch the pretty, pretty video. Still, there’s a sick sense of pleasure to be derived out of just witnessing the whole clip unfold, even if your PC is too old and you’re too cheap to upgrade it.

Watch the video after the jump.

Strangely, the game is said to run at a smoother clip this time around. Does that mean your two year-old PC can play it? The review used the term “run-of-the-mill” to describe PCs that can run Crysis Warhead. That means “run-of-the-mill” in relation to the current PCs. Yes, I feel your pain.

More surprises by way of video. This time, the revelations come from Call of Duty: World at War, an upcoming first-person shooter that’s again set in World War II. While the setting may induce a lot of groans, the game does offer some interesting features for multiplayer, just like its predecessor, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
According to Treyarch producer Dan Bunting, the co-op campaign comprise of a story campaign, competitive campaign, and death cards, which allow players to earn points and modify campaigns.
I’m still on the fence regarding World at War, but this development may potentially change the way I view the game. Would it be worth the purchase? We’ll find out this November as Call of Duty: World at War invades store shelves.

Here’s something I didn’t see coming—Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw, the grumpiest gaming curmudgeon that mocked so many games this side of Metal Gear Solid 4, has begrudgingly admitted that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is fun. Yes, the AI is shit and the GTA clone sandbox game is full of bugs, but it’s still fun.
I was expecting a hilarious rant that would deconstruct each flaw. Well, Croshaw did engage in an uproarious, close-to-five-minutes tirade, but he also confessed that he enjoyed blowing everything up. Sigh. I might consider selling blood this holidays.

Remember Shellshock: Nam ‘67? It’s a reviled third-person shooter from Eidos that came out four years ago. There’s a sequel coming this December, but it isn’t quite the same game. Shellshock 2: Blood Trails has morphed into a survival horror FPS.
Since the sequel has switched developers, we still can’t say if Blood Trails would be better than its predecessor. Rebellion, Shellshock 2’s developer, is responsible for games such as Rogue Trooper, Gun: Showdown, and Miami Vice: The Game. Yeah, not quite A-list, I know.
One advantage that Rebellion has over Guerrilla Games’ original Shellshock—they can’t make the sequel any worse.
