Just one week after he fell apart during the final round at Quail Hollow, 2007 Masters champion, Zach Johnson sunk a 12-foot putt on the first playoff hole to beat James Driscoll and repeat as the Valero Texas Open champion. Johnson shot a 70 today, good enough to force the playoff with Driscoll. Paul Goydos and Bill Haas tied for third place. Johnson, 33, vaulted to the top of the Fedex Cup list with this win, his second of the season. Johnson joined the PGA Tour in 2004. Today’s win is his sixth PGA Tour win. He also won the Sony Open in Hawaii earlier this season. Johnson is married and has a young son. The Johnsons live in Lake Mary, Florida, outside of Orlando. (photo credit: Keith Allison) [Read more]

Tony Romo, the star quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, wants to play in the US Open in the worst way. Unfortunately, he failed to qualify to move on to the second round of qualifying matches this week. This is the fourth year that Romo has attempted to make the field for the Open. Romo shot par on the front nine at Dallas National Golf Club on Monday. He fell apart, however on the back nine, carding five bogeys and a triple bogey to finish the day with an 80, well out of contention for the qualifier. Romo is a avid amateur golfer. He has also tried to qualify for the Byron Nelson Championship, without success, for the last four years. (photo credit: Eliza Gonzales/cc license) [Read more]
