Being a millionaire, no big deal, right?
Moms can be millionaires just as easily as the next person. So why is it so hard to grasp that concept?
I read this article about Millionaire Moms and just got motivated all over again. I don’t know about you, but most days I’m just thinking about doing everything on my “to-do” list instead of worrying about making millionaire status. But with the right tools and resources, a mommy can be a millionaire too.
What kind of jobs or professions do mothers have where they can become millionaires or even billionaires? Should they be business owners or would corporate America be enough? Should they invent a widget or gizmo or build a fierce downline that is unshakeable? What is it that a woman or a mom can do that would gain her millionaire, even billionaire status? Here are just a few:
Miuccia Prada. Every woman should own one. A Prada bag, that is.
Margaret Whitman. You know her. That’s the eBay lady.
The Big “O”. Oprah Wynfrey, that is.
J.K. Rowling. aka Harry Potter
Which one do you want to be like when you grow up?

I think it’s absolutely possible for women to be as successful as men in a vacuum.
But I think that there are other issues – most notably family – that keep women from being less successful.
As a working mom of three kids, I can tell you that I have made choices for the benefit of my family that have definitely slowed my career. I have twice turned down extremely lucrative offers to manage law firm practice areas because of the time involved. I stepped down after 6 years of serving on a BOD because the number of meetings meant that I wasn’t able to tuck my kids into bed at night.
I’m not saying poor me. Those are my choices and I stand by them. But I think, culturally, women make more sacrifices in their careers for the sake of their families than men do. And that shows in the numbers of CEOs, law firm partners and yes, even billionaires.
Kelly, I agree with you on that. I too put my career on the back burner for the family. And I have not regretted it one single time since.
To be fair, I’ve had moments of regret. You know, little pangs when something has happened that makes me think that things could be different. But I stand by my decisions. They work for me.
