The internet was recently abuzz due to “Baby Shaker”, an iPhone application that was available at the iTunes store for 99 cents. Baby Shaker was a game that simulated a baby crying and forced the iPhone owner to shake the phone violently to quiet the baby. Once adequately shaken, the iPhone screen showed an incapacitated baby.

After complaints from a number of individual users and groups such as the Sarah Jane Brain Foundation and the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome, Apple Inc. decided to delete the application from their iTunes store. The company that built the application, Sikalosoft, had deleted the application from their website.

According to the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome, shaking a baby can result in learning disabilities, physical disabilities, hearing impairment, blindness, cerebral palsy and even death.
