In retro move, BabyTel – a small, but scrappy, VoIP service provider out of Montreal – has introduced a new service called “Back to the Future” that lets you make local phone calls without dialing the area code. “babyTEL’s move is one small step for mankind – back to a simpler time when your fingers did a little less walking,” said telecom analyst Iain Grant of the Seaboard Group. Canadian 10-digit local calling was introduced in Toronto in 2001 before spreading to cities like Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton, Mississauga and other parts of the GTA.
