Backgammon Anyone?

May 19, 2008 by Blake

Watching this video made me remember that I’ve always wanted to dig into backgammon as an alternative to poker. I’m a little poker bored, it seems, and I remember from playing backgammon when I was much younger that it was fun and interesting. Another kind of strategy.

Anyone ever dabble in this or other forms of non-poker skill-related gambling? I need a new fix.

I’m starting to consider playing 5 card draw online for money just for kicks, though I tend to be cursed in that game. Even w/o wilds, whenever I make a straight or a flush, someone always has me one-upped.

I should probably walk, but nah.

I play backgammon almost every night and I used to play dominoes almost every night too.

But I don’t play the normal styles of backgammon or dominoes because they are too simple.

it is one of my favorite past times when not playing poker becuase I’m usually at my buddies cigar shop and smoking cigars which Ican’t really do with poker unless I sit outside with my laptop.

    Do you play for money?

I want to learn more. It’s been too long since I played.

Kind of. I play for cigars but each cigar is about 20-30 dollars.

I also play video games for money and/or cigars.

Playing backgammon for money is easy. You just need to establish if it’s going to be on a point system (the same way you bet on dominoes) or if the person to reach X wins Y amount.

The hardcore guys play per point. So it can get crazy. I’m not sure how people bet/play normal backgammon. I play a much more strategic version that my Syrian friend taught me.

Same with dominoes. I play a much more strategic version then normal dominoes. It’s fun once you learn the basics and start to develop your strategy just like with poker.

BTW, I’ve played 5 card draw tourneys before. They are fun. Creating a bluff in 5 card draw is interesting (to me at least).

It took me a while to get the setup of the bluff right. i was doing it in all the wrong spots before.

5 card draw tactics discussion would be fun. a lot of people just go for it. i like the thoughts.

i am going to look into developing some backgammon chops.

cards for cigars, i like it.

Nothing is better then smoking a won cigar in front of a guy and constantly reminding him that you just owned him.

    MONKEY RAGE TILT!
