Bad Company isn’t so bad after all

I’ve played the demo for Battlefield: Bad Company, and it pretty much captures what GameTrailers’ video review is saying: it’s fun to blow stuff up. There’s also a single player campaign now to keep players busy, which would be particularly useful since the Conquest mode in multiplayer hasn’t shipped yet.

It’s a good thing Conquest is going to be given away for free. Unfortunately, those previous plans for microtransactions has made me leery of Bad Company as a whole. Despite this positive GameTrailers review, Bad Company is still rental material to me.

I wonder how well this will stack up against the Call of Duty franchise though . . . back in the day, Battlefield was doing pretty strong but with Call of Duty 4 out now, who knows . . .

I’ve always seen the Battlefield franchise as special–with 2142 and Bad Company as the only exceptions because they weren’t as terrific (but still very good) as the other installments. The Battlefield series remains consistent because DICE has remained at the helm for each game.

The Call of Duty “franchise” on the other hand, is a bit more spotty since not all of its sequels were handled by Infinity Ward. Call of Duty 4 is certainly a highlight in the series, but perhaps a reason for this is because the others weren’t so good.

In other words, valleys make peaks seem higher than it should be.

I would liken the Battlefield franchise as more of a mountainside. Majority of the installments are peaks, with its “weakest” spots not even as low as a plateau.

My money’s on the Battlefield franchise as a whole.
