Bad PR…both ways!
Before even starting, head over to FranchisePicks’ summary of the situation Cuppy Coffee’s going through. Click Here.
Are you done? Great!
As you might have figured out by now, this is a terrible PR situation for the company to be in. Not only have they been talked about and involved (in a somewhat controversial story), but now they’ve been -allegedly- caught for trying to erase any and all types of the conversations discussing the dirty issue.
This kind of behavior actually goes against every free speech right any human being (in any country) has. To pull it even further, this goes against E-V-E-R-Y rule or norm in the blogosphere. How can a ’serious’ company be actually doing this? Allow the conversation to flow naturally, chances are it would fade rather quickly… Instead, it’s like they just pumped up some gas into it. Definitely some bad PR and some very bad brand image.
To add some more junk into it, some Pro-Cuppy blogs (or actually, I believe the right word is Flogs) popped-up around. Like this Xanga site (click here) publishing user comments on the wonders of Cuppy’s Coffee… which by the way I have nothing against, it might be the best coffee company in the world, it’s just they’re not so PR-smart.
In my opinion, we should just end this conversation. The company is obviously trying to kill it, so it’s OK, if they’re so against it we might just grant them this one wish. Of course, as well as letting them know we never forget, so next time I feel like coffee, this sure will be in my mind.
Oh and before I forget, head over to Eric’s blog (Common Sense PR) and read up on some more of it, he gives us his view on the topic with some very interesting and useful information.
For sure this is one of the juiciest conversations going around at the moment. I thank Sean Kelly from FranchisePick for keeping it going even though he might have been pressured into not doing so. Keep up the good, -honest- job Sean; all of us “free speech” lovers definitely appreciate it.
