Bam! John Parker Wilson leads the Tide to a Bowl Win

eric-gray-alabma.jpgI have a confession to make. I didn’t think that the Independence Bowl would that great. Alabama…7-6. Colorado…6-7.

But put too mediocre teams up against one another, and what do you get? Four quarters of exciting football, apparently.

At the end of the first quarter, I was fairly bored. Sure, there were a few interesting plays, but Alabama was dominating the game, as I expected they would. Hell, until about 2 minutes before halftime, Colorado wasn’t even on the board. Then…suddenly…two touchdowns in two minutes. Where the F did that come from? Suddenly, things got more interesting. At halftime, Alabama was still leading, but the Buffaloes, led by quarterback Cody Hawkins, had narrowed the score gap to 27-14. Hey, with two quarters left to play, a comeback was doable.

Unfortunately Colorado just didn’t do it.

Although they kicked a field goal in the third quarter and got another touchdown with 3:51 on the clock, it wasn’t enough. Too bad, too, because something bit those Buffaloes in the ass. During the second half, they really put a stop on Alabama’s scoring. Had they had a better offense (or perhaps, Alabama a less talented defense), they could have came back.

I guess the key term for tonight is “could have.”

In the end, Alabama won the bowl, 30 – 24. Congratulations, boys.
