Banner Ads to Appear on Cablevision

When you are on the internet, sometimes you have to deal with a pesky banner ad. Going to your television used to be a safe haven. However, many consumers who get their television service through Cablevision will soon have to deal with banner ads on their television sets.

The banner ads will appear on the bottom of the screen during select commercials. By using your remote to select the banner ad, consumers can order brochures, coupons and samples. Eventually, consumers will be able to save video and even purchase items with their remote.

Gemma Toner of Cablevision talks as if this advancement is good news for the average consumer.

Said Toner: “We believe TV can give you more and this is a fun new way to extend your television experience. This is done in a way that is not intrusive. The consumer is in control.”

I’ll have to see this in action before I make any definite judgment but I can’t imagine that banner ads will be something that is looked forward to during commercials. Perhaps I am wrong but I can’t remember logging onto the internet to view the latest banner ads.
