Barack Obama Unveils His Presidential Election Brand Strategy

He hasn’t won the Democratic nomination yet, but that’s not stopping Barack Obama from talking about his brand strategy against Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain

According to the Associated Press, Barack Obama defined his brand message against the Republican competition today when he said:

“In a contest between myself and John McCain, there is going to be a very clear choice on policy that I don’t think is going to have to do with ideology and who theoretically is more liberal or who’s more conservative. I think it is going to have to do with who has a plan to provide relief to people when it comes to their gas prices, who has a real plan to make sure that everybody has health insurance, who’s got a real plan to deal with college affordability.”

“So rather than an abstract set of questions about, ‘Is he too liberal, is he too conservative, how do voters handle an African American, et cetera,’ I think this is going to be a very concrete contest around very specific plans for how we improve the lives of Americans and our vision for the future.”

Sounds like Barack Obama has a brand message and brand promise that the American people want to hear and want to embrace.  Of course, with politics the question always remains whether or not the people should believe him.  Regardless, it’s a brand message that’s bound to drive brand loyalty.  It’s a marketer’s dream come true and gets an A+ from copywriting instructors – fulfill customers’ needs with benefits-oriented language that speaks directly to them in a way they can personalize, and you’ll drive them to action.  Looks like it’s working so far.

What do you think (from a marketing and branding perspective)?
