Bears Defense Gets a Hester-ectomy

Devin Hester returned the opening kickoff of the Super Bowl back for a touchdown. Then he never got a chance to make a big play the rest of the game. He never touched the ball. The Colts won the Super Bowl and Peyton Manning hosted Saturday Night Live. All of this seems well and good to you and me, but the Bears were hoping that they would win the Super Bowl and that Dan Ankroyd would host SNL. So, in an attempt to control when and how the ball ends in Devin Hester’s hands, the Bears are moving Hester-ia to the offense side of the ball. There, he’ll be used for trick plays, end-arounds, screens and other plays designed to give him the ball in open field. I don’t expect him to play any actual receiver, as well, he’s not an actual receiver.
“There are a lot of different ways we can go. You can make a case for him being a slot receiver. You can make a case for him being a single receiver when we go to our two-tight end, two-running back packages. You can make a case for him from the running back position.”
You could also make the case to line him up at quarterback, but that’s more of a reflection on the Registered Rex Offender.
