I love the Beastie Boys! Most people first became familiar with them from their 1986 album Licensed to Ill which contained the hugely popular first single “Fight For Your Right (to Party).” They followed it up with several albums (including 1994’s Ill Communication which featured “Sabotage,” one of my favorite videos of all time).![]()
When the group released Hello Nasty in 1998, it went straight to #1 in the U.S., the UK, Germany, Australia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Sweden and did very well elsewhere in the world.
The effort garnered them two Grammy Awards in 1999 for “Best Alternative Music Album” and Best Rap Performance for the single “Intergalactic.” The music video for the single also earned them the “Best Hop Hop Video” prize at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards (to go along with the “Video Vanguard Award” they took home the previous year).
I’m rambling a bit all to say that I’m thrilled the Beastie Boys have released the digitally remastered version of Hello Nasty which features a bonus disc of b-sides and rarities containing seven never-before-released tracks, plus skits & remixes. The original album cover art has been restored in this 10 panel eco-friendly 2 CD set.
In honor of this release, I thought it would be cool to watch the video for “Intergalactic.”
