Become a Croatian Fan
I’m trying to work out the motivation behind the site ‘Become a Croatian Fan‘ but decided to just give up and go with it. It a very funny site, dedicated to all things Croatian footbally, giving poor English fans (it definitely seems to be focusing on them rather than the rest of the home nations) a chance to Become a Croatian Fan for the duration. You can see what your name would be in Croatian (mine’s Ruzica Clarketko) and they’ll email you a Honorary Birth Certificate if you five them an email address.
I love the story as to why Tony Henry is the team’s unofficial mascot, after trying to sing the National anthem at a match:
Now Croatian is a hard enough language to pronounce at the best of times, particularly if you’ve had to resort to downloading the song from the web having not been given any official words, tips or song sheets!! So, having cruised through the 1st verse of Croatia’s anthem, Tony unwittingly mispronounced a line in the second verse. Instead of saying ” Mila kuda si planina” he said “Mila kura si planina”, thus changing the rather poetic and moving “My dear I love your mountains” to the overtly promiscuous “My penis is like a mountain”. Allegedly the Croatia players found it so funny it relaxed them in what was an incredibly tense environment.
To help promote the site, there’s a goalkeeper game you can play, which is mildly amusing. So have fun playing this but make sure you explore the rest of the site, which is really good.

I’m already a Croatian fan, because I’m a Croat. Anyway nice site. :)
btw: in our grammar we don’t translate names from another languages to Croatian
rose = ruža
Rose = Ružica
So I’m Rose? Nah, nothing like that. It’s a weird little tool but fun – i tried putting other names in and they just seem to pick something starting with the same letter.
Meanwhile, I’ll go back to watching Croatia – I enjoyed the game yesterday.
