Become a del.icio.us jedi in 10 minutes
Merlin has mentioned this previously, but it bears repeating so I’ll take a turn:
- First, get an account. It’s free and non-invasive. Just choose a username and a password, that’s it.
- When you’re logged in, every page has a "subscribe" link
in the top left corner, which will add that page to your "inbox." You can subscribe to both people and tags. - Prowl others’ inboxes (here’s mine: del.icio.us/inbox/bren) and liberally populate your own inbox with prolific bookmarkers who share your interests.
- Get serious about tags by subscribing to various tags of interest. The language is easy: del.icio.us/tag/your-tag-here.
- Combine tags with a ‘+’ to dial in just what you’re looking for. Hiking in Oregon? Combine the ‘oregon’ and ‘hiking’ tags like this: http://del.icio.us/tag/oregon+hiking and you’ll get all the links that have been tagged with both ‘oregon’ and ‘hiking.’
- Regardless of whether you’re logged in, there’s an RSS link in the bottom left corner of every page (even those combined tag pages) for consumption by your RSS reader of choice.
Extra credit… There are many great additions to the del.icio.us universe. I use Spurl as a front-end for del.icio.us. I like the bookmarklet and the organization it provides. You can also grab your tag-specific RSS feeds from them, all nicely wrapped up in javascript for immediate posting on your website or blog.

Right on for the tip on Spurl. Just loaded all my del.icio.us links into it and I’m loving the interface. This is why I read Slacker Manager. :)
I like your use of marks to sort tags to the top of your list. How do you get those */ tags to work? I tried adding them to some of my tags and ended up with odd directory listings.
Ian, the */ in the subscriptions list just indicates that I’m subscribed to that *tag* as opposed to that *person*. So I didn’t add the */ bit–it’s just how del.icio.us works when you subscribe to tags.
Hope that helps…
Huge kudos to you for the help yesterday on this topic!
Jedi-ninja style thanks to ya!
