Beer Wings

I made buffalo chicken wings** a few weeks ago – for the first time ever – and I have to say, they were mighty tasty. With the weather that we’re having on the north east coast (cool and gray), wings just may be the perfect food to enjoy over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
I later saw a recipe that incorporated beer into a wing recipe – genius! That recipe called for adding more heat (cayenne pepper) and then deep-frying the wings. I’m not a fan of deep-frying wings at home (I’m messy enough as it is) especially when the recipe that I used before just couldn’t be easier and was terrific. So, I decided to include beer in the original recipe. Let me know what you think!
Beer Wings
2-1/2 lbs. chicken wings
1/2 c. hot Sauce (I used FRANK’S REDHOT sauce since the original recipe belonged to FRANK’S)
1/3 c. melted butter
1/3 c. beer (preferably lager)
1, Preheat over to 425 degrees F.
2, Bake chicken wings for 45 minutes.
3, Combine melted butter, beer and hot sauce. Pour half of the mixture over the wings.
4, Bake chicken wings for 15 more minutes.
5, Pour remainder of beer mixture over the wings.
6, Enjoy with blue cheese dressing or more hot sauce!

Tried it out…they were great…But i used louisiana hotsauce for it :-)

Also, beer wings sound beasty. I think I’ll try it with a man can of Foster’s. Anybody have any other beers to recommend?
Lagunitas Brown suga is a thick beer but I’d rather drink it than cook with it.
Sound delish, I will try them this weekend. Oh and BTW, up here in Western NY its against the law to not deep fry chicken pieces and try to pass them off as chicken wings :)

Ooh, I do love some fried food… Chris believes that they fry everything – including salad – in my hometown. But the baked wings were actually nice!
Well, I’m not yet 21, but my fiance has some Budweiser in the fridge… I should try this tonight. I hope we have enough Red Hot.

Thats because what your recipe describes isn’t Buffalo Wings. Real Buffalo Wings are deep fried until the skin gets crispy and then tossed in the sauce.
For those of you who decide to head out for some wings, the ones at McMenamins in Mt Airy (Philadelphia) are great. Any more recommendations?
Who would have thought I would stumble upon this page and someone would ref the amazing wings at McMenamins. Also try their chicken tenders. I am going to make these for my buddies 21st.

I’ve always used Franks RedHot (for years)
and always deepfried them
however to keep things interesting
after deep frying, then i sauce them
and then throw them on the grill
it gives them a smokey flavor
and makes them drier and less
messy
Another thing to do after baking them is to toss them in a crock pot with sauce in it. they are fall off the bone tender and keep them hot for everyone to enjob. works best in large amounts for a party. or just for someone who really likes eating wings all day

Great idea! I’m a crockpot junkie for parties – I will definitely include some recipes upcoming. I even have a mini crock for keeping dips warm – and I have some great beer dip recipes.
