Unlike the 2004 Athens Games where only two-thirds of the 5.3 million tickets were purchases, the Beijing Olympics are on pace to actually sell out. Yes, despite all of the problems, the earthquake and viruses, it looks like China’s upcoming Summer Games are a real hot-ticket item! Even tickets to the less popular events are selling.
Ticketmaster president Jonathan Krane said in an interview Friday from Shanghai: “We predict that this will be the first Olympics that is a ’sold out’ Olympics… Certain events are always sold out during the Olympics, but I think that to have every event sold out, that’s something that’s very positive, and it doesn’t always happen,=.”
This is quite a feat when you consider the fact that there are a staggering 6.8 million tickets available for the Beijing Games! Yes, it is true that China has a huge population and I’m sure that helps but I still think it’s incredible.
Earlier this month, Olympics organizers announced that domestic-sale tickets for events in Beijing were sold out. Tickets for some events in other cities, such as soccer tournaments in Shanghai and equestrian events in Hong Kong, were still available.
