Beijing Olympics Preparation: Focus on Training

TRAINING is a major issue discussed during the 84th meeting of BOCOG Executive Board that was held recently.

The meeting was chaired by BOCOG President Liu Qi, who is also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee. Also present at the meeting was Chen Zhili, State Councilor and BOCOG First Vice-President.

“The board called for the enhancement of training for the key personnel such as BOCOG staff, volunteers and sport technology officers. Such people can be assigned to new posts only after they have passed examination. The training quality should be increased so that the trainees can provide high-level services. Meanwhile Olympic education should be promoted to spread Olympic knowledge among the 400 million young people in China.” (http://en.beijing2008.cn)

They also discussed the report on the torch relay for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

I reckon with every huge event, which involves a huge amount of people, logistics is going to be a pain in the arse. You really need enough manpower to successfully pull something off. So, with added manpower means a lot of delegation will occur. AND one way to ensure quality is to train people in the process which the organization wishes to adapt.

The Olympic Games is a huge deal. There are a lot of things that a spectator and even an athlete don’t know. Some think that you would just go to a ticket office to see an event or prepare for the sport you’ll be playing in and then show up. They fail to realise that the nitty gritty, behind-the-scenes that will make everything possible is done way, way ahead and oftentimes, obscure to one’s attention.

But here you go, something you ought to know about the Olympics Games. Kudos to the organising committee and the volunteers. Thanks for making sure that the Olympics will go well. :)
