Being Aloof Isn’t Cool

When people asked you what your major was in college, you probably told them the vaguest answer possible.

  • English
  • Math
  • Business

If you liked the person you might have thrown them a bone and told them your minor as well. Getting excited about school was not encouraged nor was it rewarded. You either looked like a dork or you didn’t.

Now, having this drummed into you for years, you’re expected to give elevator speeches and discuss what you do with a level of interest designed to get the other person excited too.

See the paradox? You are supposed to suddenly be amazing at doing something you’ve been taught through peer groups most of your life is not cool. It’s no wonder we’re nervous when it comes to talking with strangers. When you talk to people you don’t know you rely on lessons previously learned to get you through the meeting.

But if that’s how you feel – it’s time to learn new rules for yourself.

Start by having a few new experiences. Tell people who don’t care about you and what you do.

  • Tell your waitress next time you go out to eat.
  • Take a few moments and tell your hairdresser.
  • Shopping for clothes? Tell the salesperson about your company or plans.

Practice on people that are used to listening. If you’re insecure these are still three excellent choices because they will be polite no matter how crazy your biz idea is.

Then by the time you go to your next networking event, you’ll feel more comfortable sharing what you do and be able to add some enthusiasm into the mix!

Never underestimate the power of the internet. An increasing number of people use the internet
to search for a business or service so having a web presence is an important media for promoting
your company. Web design is a real skill and if your website is to not only look good but work well,
it should be constructed by a professional web designer.

I saw that Casey Fronczek is offering fishing trips now down in south Florida. Does anybody have any input on these trips or has anyone been on one of these trips before?
