Ben Stein Signs On With FreeScore.com

When companies want to bring attention to themselves, they usually look to famous faces. When it’s a financial services company, it helps to have someone who is recognized in the finance world. So it’s no real surprise that FreeScore.com wanted Ben Stein ’s face.

Ben Stein appears in a commercial for FreeScore.com, helping to get the word out about the company — and even sharing some credit score consumer information. But, while it seems like a good idea, you should always read the fine print. You get your free credit score as part of a 7-day trial (you have to enter a credit card number to receive continued service at a rate of $29.95 per month), and you even have to pay a $1.00 processing fee. It’s refundable, but still.

While the commercial is reasonably entertaining, FreeScore.com appears to be another financial services company along the lines of FreeCreditReport.com — not really free. You’re better off going to AnnualCreditReport.com for your reports, and CreditKarma.com to get an idea of your credit score.
