For those of us who couldn’t wait for the start of the 2009 NFL season, the day finally arrived. Who were the best of the best? Here’s a look at the best NFL players in Week 1 of the 2009 campaign:
QB Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Wow. What a great way to begin a season. Drew Brees finished Week 1 with 358 passing yards to go along with six touchdown passes and only one interception.

RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings
If there were any doubts about who is the best running back in the NFL, Adrian Peterson provided some clarity in Week 1. He had 180 yards and three touchdowns as the Vikings rolled.
WR Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts
Marvin Harrison is no longer in Indianapolis — and Reggie Wayne proved he’s ready to be the man. In Week one, the Colts lead wide receiver had 10 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown.
TE John Carlson, Seattle Seahawks
The second-year tight end for the Seahawks looked great in Week 1. Against the St. Louis Rams, John Carlson had six catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
