Better Than Free?

ideabulb.jpgThanks to Joe Wikert and his pointer to Kevin Kelly’s post called Better Than Free. For those of you who don’t know, Kelly has been a leader in all things ‘net for years. I first knew of him through The Well, the original online community when he was also associated with Stewart Brand’s Whole Earth Catalog. We were there at the beginning. Kelly moved on to Wired Magazine. In other words, when Kelly speaks about the ‘net, I tend to pay attention.

In this post, he’s talking about how the net is moving us away from the tangible, like physical books that can be copyrighted to the intangible like trust. He then proceeds to tell us how “eight generatives” might be used to make money in the future.

Is he right? Maybe. My hunch is he’s at least partly right, although some of the comments point out possible flaws in his argument. Why am I posting a link to this? Because I work on the ‘net most of the time and since you’re reading this, I assume you’re at least interested in what it’s bringing to us.

Would love to hear your thinking about where the ‘net is taking us.
