Big League Sports: Summer for Wii

Big League Sports: Summer was released for the Wii earlier this week. I was a bit surprised that Nintendo developed this game considering the fact that its predecessor, Big League Sports, was not well-received by critics or gamers (IGN.com gave it a 2.3 and called it “terrible”). Hopefully, they took the feedback into consideration and have delivered a better product this time. Still, I am starting to wonder if they aren’t going overboard with all of these sports-related games. It seems like they are releasing a new one every week. I’d rather they put out fewer high-quality games rather than saturate the market with mediocre ones.
I haven’t played Big League Sports: Summer yet so I can’t really judge but, in all honesty, I’ve played so many new sports games on the Wii recently that I’m barely interested in this one. There are six sports to choose from: beach volleyball, tennis, baseball, football, soccer and golf. These are all activities that I can play in the games that I already own. I’m not sure but it doesn’t look like you can use your Miis either.
Here’s a rundown of the game features:
- All-Star challenges, including home run derby, hotbox, corner kicks, golf target drive and more
- Single-player mode allows you to go through training camp on court, field, course, sand and diamond
- Multi-player mode allows gamers to compete against three players in a variety of drills and exercises simultaneously
The head-to-head multiplayer action could be fun but I don’t know if it’s enough to make me go out and rent this. Have you played it? If so, what did you think?
