Billy Bob’s Daughter Indicted in Baby’s Death

Amanda Brumfield, the 29-year-old daughter of Billy Bob Thornton and his ex-wife, Melissa Gatlin, has been indicted by a Florida court for her role in the death of 1-year-old Olivia Garcia.  The little girl was Amanda’s goddaughter.

Last October, Brumfield was babysitting Garcia when things went terribly wrong.  Brumfield claims that the child fell out of a playpen but the autopsy disputes this since it was concluded that the 28-inch skull fracture and bleeding of the brain was caused by something more violent.  After being taken to the hospital more than two hours later, Garcia fell into a coma and died the next day.

Brumfield has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter.  She is one of three people indicted in connection with this crime.  Her lawyer asked that she be given a bond amount and allowed to leave the jail today but the request was denied.  The prosecutors have not revealed their theories about the death occurred or the motive.

Billy Bob released a statement indicating that he is estranged from his daughter and has had "no contact with her for quite some time." He did, however, offer his condolences to the Garcia family.
