Bioshock annoyance #1: Motion sickness gives that Half-Life 2 feeling

Déjà vu.You’ve played 3D shooters for the longest time. Your accomplished games are worth around 10 years of action from Unreal Tournament, all those Jedi Knight titles, F.E.A.R., Doom 3, No One Lives Forever 2, Halo 1 and 2, and Duke Nukem, among a few.

Sure, you may have felt a little sick when you played Half-Life 2, but who didn’t right?

If there’s one thing I really dislike about my short time spent playing Bioshock, it’s the motion sickness I get after playing the game for a couple of hours. It’s not as hurl-inducing as Half-Life 2 (which starts to make me sick in less than 60 minutes), but the headache does begin to set in after you’ve had a good share of Rapture’s gun smoke and art deco.

So what do I do when I gain the inspiration to heave my previous meal out through my maw? I stop. Very reluctantly.

Question is: does Bioshock really cause motion sickness, or was it the semi-choppy visuals that caused the headache? I won’t be able to tell until I get my video card back. Are you reading this, Rising Sun?

I haven’t experienced that same feeling of nausea, though I’ve heard some people complaining about it.

I imagine that playing through the game with choppy game play might trigger a headache or a little dizziness. The game runs quite smoothly on my 360 which might explain why I’ve been unaffected.

One other possibility is that I don’t play sessions much longer than an hour or two in length.

I admire your discipline. ;) I have a tendency to get sucked in and play marathons on a regular basis. I did get my video card replaced, but while the smoothness has greatly improved, the motion-sickness was still there.
