Blog Business Summit on Guidelines

I really must get to the next Blog Business Summit. I used to think it was great to be able to follow an event like this from afar, from those blogging the event, but reading some of the blog posts I feel I am only getting the barest of insights into what’s going on. So is that more frustrating than not knowing anything about what’s happening? Not really – it’s still good to get some signals of what is being discussed and by whom.

An example is the Policy? Nope. Guidelines post from Janet Lee Johnson. This is a subject I’ve lately been taking a keen interest in, because I see the risks of blogging as a subject that has been too easily glossed over by me and other blogging enthusiasts.

I believe there are serious business risks in blogging and each company has to make decisions they can live by and be sustained by if challenges arise, for example if a suit is brought against them by a party aggrieved by something in a company blog or an employee’s blog.

Quite reasonably, Janet is reporting snippets of points of view being put by different people. She doesn’t set out to “solve” the questions raised and of course I could leave some questions in the comments box. But the post made me realise that I’d rather be there and be able to engage some of these people in a post-session coffee break conversation.
