In case you have forgotten your grammar school days – a verb is an action word.

To Blog  is to take Action.

Make a statement.

Take a risk.

Share your thoughts.

Bare your soul.

Take a stand.

Make a motion.

Start a movement.

Lead a cause.

Defy a notion.

Right a wrong.

Protect an innocent.

Fulfill a need.

Demonstrate a point.

Touch a nerve.

Expose a fear.

Spark an interest.

Give a damn.

Don’t fill your blog with other people’s words, other people’s ideas, and other people’s risks.

Blog boldly.

Blog loudly.

Blog confidently.

Blog honestly.

Or don’t bother blogging at all.

  1. This is beautiful and brilliant Liz!

    Thanks . . .

  2. A brilliant definition indeed! It’s good to be reminded of what blogging should be for all of us.

  3. One more advise.

When you start a blog, do not assault us with frequent but irrelevant content. Post only when you have to say something valuable.

    Hi Linas

Good advice. Substantive posts are definitely preferable to filler.

On the other hand though I think that the more you blog, the more comfortable you get with the medium. So you might have to work through some less than exciting content in the beginning while you get a sense of your self and your own voice.

For most bloggers that’s okay because their audience is limited in the early days, anyway.

  7. Sure, Liz, the more you blog, the more comfortable you get with the medium. But sometimes you simply don’t have anything to say and according to the ordinary blogging rules you must post something anyway. A bunch of links for example.

But in business blogging the rules are different. In business blogging your content must be focused because readers wait insights from you, not only rambling about random things.

I even wrote an entire e-book on this topic – “The New Rules of Business Blogs”. You are welcome to check it out in my blog at http://www.positioningstrategy.com. Please feel free to post it on your blog or pass the e-book to whomever you believe might benefit from reading it.
