BlogMedia buys Blog Herald

How wrong was I? I figured Blog Herald would sell to an unknown identify in the blogosphere … but the owner is non other than Cowboy and his team at BlogMedia. What bank did you rob to get the funding for this one? Perhaps Scrivs paid you for a lap dance. (That’s right Scrivs, I will bag you until you respond to my emails :D)

“The Blog Herald, “ said BlogMedia Senior Vice President Matt Craven, “has a well-established history and reputation within the blog and technology communities. This acquisition allows BlogMedia to become the news destination of choice for readers seeking technology news & information about blogs, blog networks, and professional blogging.”

Awesome… now they’ll turn it into a blogmedia inc. propaganda machine…

    Hi,

Let me clear up a couple things.

First, Cowboy has moved into a different role behind the scenes at BlogMedia. He will not be blogging at The Blog Herald.

For the time being, I will act as editor and principal blogger. One of our new bloggers over at Problogging, Marcus Heiger, will also blog at The Blog Herald.

We’ve no intention of turning this site into a propaganda machine – anymore than Blog Network Watch is a propaganda machine. We’ll be reporting the news and technology thoughts from around the blogosphere.

We did rob a bank though – hopefully the police do not find us ;-)

    Thanks for the mention.

    – Matt

Cheers for the clear up Matt and good luck! :)

To be fair to BlogMedia I don’t think labelling them as a Cowboy and his team is really fair. I worked with a number of people at the company (including David Krug) on the sale and as well as all being first class professionals through out the process (honestly after the experiences I had trying to sell the site, I can’t recommend them enough), labelling them this way would be like labelling b5media as being myself and all the rest. BlogMedia is a company, in the same way b5media is, that is made up of a number of talented individuals with different roles and responsibilities combining to make something bigger. I’m not sure what their ownership structure is, but I’d think Cowboy would probably not have a huge stake in the company either.
(note b5 is 25% owned by each of its 4 owners).

I’d note also that both b5 and blogmedia don’t tend to follow the whole cult of personality thing either, so as a Finefools member I’d understand how that might be different from your own experiences. :-)

    Duncan,

Yeah I understand. Guess I just still see David as that son of a gun from JAOB. Still hasn’t kicked in that he is part of a company now. Jeez, do you wear a suit every day now David? :)

Cheers for the comment Duncan and hope all goes well :)

You talk about working in your boxers. I’m sitting in the dining room (because it’s sunnier than my home office and my wife is here with me), blogging while wearing no undies, a pair of sweatpants, and a BloggerJobs t-shirt. I have a powerbook in front of me, a Dell D600 to my left, and a Treo 650 to my right. And some water…

Oh, yeah, and Chap Stick, because this is Minnesota.

Sometimes we jump the shark a bit and climb up on our high horse and thunder down some opinions, right or wrong, but in the end we’re a business with business objectives, employees & contractors to take care of, and profit to make. All of our decisions, even the ones that we’ve been criticized for here and elsewhere, have been done for business reasons.

We’re here for the long term and intend to be successful.

Thanks for all of the kind words on both of your parts (Jamsi and Duncan), I’m looking forward to what the future brings.

    ~~Matt

Blogging with no undies eh? That almost sounds like a new blog idea. Quick, Scrivs to the rescue!

In all honestly, I like BlogMedia. It’s not a network that shouts “Look at me, Look at me!” but simply a cool, groovey network comprised of some talented people. It looks like you guys have planned this well and are actually becoming successful. Obtaining the Blog Herald is proof of this.

  1. [...] For those living under a rock, the Blog Herald was sold to BlogMedia just a few days ago and being the cool, groovy guy that I am, I was lucky enough to score an interview. Yippee! [...]
