Bowden: "I’m Still the Head Football Coach"

Much like with Joe Paterno and, in the past, Llyod Carr, Bobby Bowden gets asked the same question again and again every season: Is this your last year?
Said Bowden on Monday during ACC Media day, “”I’m still the head football coach, but I know we’ve got to win more than we’re winning now. I’m not interested in getting out, though. I plan on getting this thing back to where it ought to be, and go on from there. Time will tell.”
Last season, Florida State’s record was 7-6, and that doesn’t sit well in Florida. Fans have been chomping at the bit for a winning season, and many think that Bowden should leave. Although he currently has more wins than anyone in Division I history, if Penn State has a better season this year, Paterno will pull ahead, and that won’t sit well with the Seminoles.
Bowden has named offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher his successor. I don’t know if Fisher has a contract with Florida State that guarantees his place as head coach, but he’s such an asset to the team, that most believe it is a great choice. If they have another mediocre season, will Bowden be pushed out?
It just goes to show – even if you are a living legend, if you aren’t appeasing the fans, it isn’t long before you’re shoved out the door….
