Bowling Green Fires Gregg Brandon

Bowling Green is adding themselves to the list of schools needing a football coach from 2009. On Saturday, AD Greg Christopher announced that Gregg Brandon was donzo after six years.

Gregg-Brandon-iconphotos507967-4391929-BG-v-Ohio-ncHis performance at Bowling Green was mediocre, but not horrible. In six years, he had a record of 44-30, and 31-17 in the MAC conference. This year, they finished the season 6-6, 4-4 against other MAC teams. They’ve been to three bowls over the past six years, and won the 2003 MAC West Division Championship. In both 2005 and 2007, they tied for first place.

I don’t think they should let him go. Brandon’s main problem, as I see it, is not being a good recruiter. With the right players, I think he could coach an outstanding team…at Bowling Green, he just hasn’t really had the chance.

The good news for him, though, is that he’ll probably be mentioned and maybe interviewed for some of the other open jobs. I could see a guy like him going to Syracuse or Mississippi State, who’s head coach recently resigned.

What do you think? Did Brandon deserve the ax?

  1. Dirk says:

Brandon is a creative offensive-minded coach, but the defense was lacking consistently the last 6 years. Blowing a 21 point lead to Buffalo, which caused BG to miss getting destroyed by Ball State in this Friday’s MAC championship game reiterates my point. They had a good start this season by beating Pitt and only losing to Minnesota due to unfortunate turnovers. Perhaps he’ll show up at Syracuse, Miss State, or in Florida’s program with Urban Meyer. Good luck!

  2. I also agree with you on this fact. Bowling Green should not fire Gregg Brandon becuase he is a good caoch and has the ability to lead a team like Bowling Green with sheer success.
