British Royal Zara Phillips Chosen For Olympic Equestrian Team

Britain - Royal Family

Zara Phillips, one of Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughters, will be competing for Team Britain in the equestrian events at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

Five riders were selected by the British Olympic Association today including 26-year-old Phillips who won "the individual gold on Toytown in the three-day eventing competition at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, last year."

This is nothing new for the British Royals.  Zara’s father, Mark Phillips, participated in the three-day even at the 1972 Olympics games in Munich and emerged with a goal medal.  Princess Anne, her mother, competed in the 1976 Montreal games after winning the European title in 1971.

I find the games very exciting but, call me shallow, events that include celebrities or, in this case, royalty, are even bigger draws.  I will be watching!
