Bruce Smith, the Hall of Fame defensive end who rose to stardom with the Buffalo Bills, has been charged with a DUI. The 45-year-old Smith was initially pulled over for speeding in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In addition to the DUI charge, he was also charged with refusing a breathalyzer and for speeding.
Drafted out of Virginia Tech, Smith played with the Bills from 1985 to 1999. He then went on to play the final four years of his NFL career with the Washington Redskins. In total, Smith played 279 games and recorded 673 tackles, 200 sacks and 30 forced fumbles. At 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, Smith is regarded as one of the best defensive ends in NFL history.
Regarding Smith’s driving history, this isn’t the first time he has been charged with a DUI. In 1997, he was charged with a DUI but the case was dismissed. He faced another DUI charge in 2003 but he was acquitted in that case.
Smith has been released on bond.
