Buffalo Wild Wings
I missed experiencing this restaurant chain when I was in the US, but it seems to be pretty big and has a good reputation for wings. The Buffalo Wild Wings website is good fun, with lots of things to click on, explore and play with, even if the bit that tells you where the restaurants are was a little hidden. And it does not explain why chicken wings are called Buffalo wings, I’ve always wondered.
They’ve just rolled out a new promotion to promote ‘Boneless Thursdays’, where you can send a personalised voicemail (or email) to your friend to arrange a meeting at the restaurant. These have worked well for others in the past, where you can get stars and film characters to call up friends. They’re unusual enough to catch your ear and imagination, even if the tech is not fully there to make the personalised bits as streamlined as it can be in video. I like this, it’s fun to use.
Buffalo Wild Wings enjoys projecting itself as a fun place to gather and has done a good job of integrating its traditional and digital marketing. They’ve grown from a regional to a national chain over the past five years or so using this message.
BTW – they are called Buffalo wings because the original place to serve them was in Buffalo, New York.

I helped launch the Buffalo Wild Wings franchise program back in the late 80s, early 90s when they had just a few restaurant/bars in college towns. It was started by a couple of Ohio college kids with the munchies. Back then it was called BW3 Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck (weck is a German bread topped with salt). They’ve since grown to a publicly traded franchise chain with hundreds of units.
Until the early 1970s chicken wings in the use were seen as waste to be tossed out or sold cheaply. The Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY is credited with first deep frying them, smothering them with a hot sauce, and serving them with celery and bleu cheese dressing on the side. “Buffalo Wings” were born… and are name for the city of their origin, not the hairy, shaggy animals whose wings – if they had any – would be too big for the home fryer.

Thanks both of you, I know now why they’re called Buffalo wings. I must admit though, if they are the ones with the hot sauce I never like them, much prefer different flavours.
I ended up at your post because I was looking for a place to mail-deliver wings.
As the previous posters stated, they’re called “Buffalo wings” because of their place of origin. Having said that, I feel compelled to mention that here in Buffalo, NY no one *ever* calls them “Buffalo wings”, we call them “chicken wings”. And they can come in a variety of flavors. The original wings were fried and coated in hot sauce, but you can also get them in barbecue sauce, now, or Cajun, or lots of other flavors. It’s still the same concept.
We had a BW’3 open in the area about 2 years ago. Good food, kids could go too, spent a-lot of money there. We probably went at least 1-2 times a week. Well, recently, we noticed over the past 6-12 months in the cleanliness, service, and staff in our location. We went there for dinner last weekend with the kids for tne VERY LAST TIME. Very sad, the table was filthy black, service was terrible, and half the young waitresses there were pregnant. The night disgusted me. My kids even made comments. The restaraunt really went down and unfortunately lost our business and money. Too bad it is one of the only restauaunts around us. Thanks for the disappointment!!!!!!!!!

@mark would you go to another BW3 restaurant, considering it’s a franchise and another place would be likely to run by someone else
i so mad because this weekend i go to buffalo wild wings ..
and the employed take my order wrong …
and when i tell her my order its wrong she get mad … i dont like people like her … the customer service its so bad …
