Building good relationships is important for your small business. You should focus on building strong relationships with your customers, employees, with your vendors, and with others related to your business.

Why are all these relationships important?
- Building a strong relationship with your customers is the most obvious, but some businesses still don’t get that. Your customers are your best marketing tool! Treat them well and they’ll sing your praises and come back for repeat business. Treat them poorly and it could mean the end of your business.
- Building a strong relationship with your vendors is not as obvious, but just as important. When you need something critical for your business at the last minute, if you have a good relationship with your supplier they’re much more likely to bend over backward to get it to you, or make it happen. If you’re snippy, or rude to them they won’t care when you fail, but if you’re one of their favorite customers they’ll work hard to keep you happy.
- It’s also important to maintain a good working relationship with your employees. You want them to help you make your business succeed. They’ll be more likely to try their hardest to make that happen if you have a good relationship with them, and treat them well.
- You never know when someone may be your next customer, or word of mouth marketer. You should always try to maintain positive relationships with others in your community. Word can get around quickly when you treat people poorly.
How often do you think about how your everyday relationships can affect your small business?
